Inspired by the Timescape exhibit at the 9/11 Memorial Museum, I used data science to explore the ways that 9/11 has transformed our world. To create these topics, I used TF-IDF vectorization and non-negative matrix factorization on a corpus of about 50,000 New York Times articles. I formed 200 topics and then manually inspected the key terms of each to remove those which were irrelevant, vague, or overly-specific to individual documents. What remains is a broad spectrum of topics and people who became prominent or notorious as a result of 9/11 and its aftermath.
